Our subsidiary BMG builds city gas pipelines and sells and distributes piped gas in the People's Republic of China. BMG has successfully pursued and developed new city gas businesses through franchise acquisitions and privatizations. BMG holds controlling interests in several city gas companies, in addition to a minority interest in a long distance high-pressure pipeline in Hunan province (a branch trunk line from the China West-East Gas Pipeline). BMG's operating companies have concessions with municipal governments in China (although certain concessions are not documented with a formal concession contract) relating to, among other things, their respective franchise area and duration. BMG has the right to build out its franchise area but is not obligated to do so. In some of the franchise areas serviced by BMG, BMG distributes natural gas supplied from domestic gas fields by way of compressed natural gas trucks or long-distance pipelines. In the remaining franchises, where the supply of natural gas is not yet available, BMG distributes liquefied petroleum gas, air mix and coal gas through its pipeline networks.
