Gazel sells compressed natural gas, or CNG, as an automotive fuel in Colombia. The Colombian government promotes vehicle conversions to CNG, with the aim of increasing the use of natural gas, an ample resource in Colombia, and to reduce consumption of foreign-sourced oil and oil products. The CNG business has tax benefits for alternative fuels, as the Colombian government imposes heavy tax burdens on gasoline and diesel fuels, but no tax on CNG.
Gazel operates several service stations under the brand name Gazel in Colombia's major cities. Gazel is the largest CNG distributor in the Colombian market and has also entered the Peruvian, Mexican and Chilean markets.
